My Jurassic era water heater finally gave out. So I headed to Yelp to find someone to replace it. I settled on A&W Plumbing because they were located close to me, and because the only bad reviews were related to people not getting called back and time issues. I called and Steve answered. We talked through my situation, and set up an appointment the next evening, so he could pop over and check out the water heater and give me a quote. The job he had the next day went long so we rescheduled our initial appointment for the following evening. He showed up and looked at my old water heater and pipes. He described what he saw and told me what issues there might be. He gave me a quote, and we set up a time for him to come out and replace my water heater.

The next day Steve showed up with a nice new Bradford White 50 gallon water heater. Steve is a very nice and friendly man. He let me hang around and watch as he worked, and while he worked, he talked about the job and what he saw, so I got a nice bit of education on plumbing. I learned that Steve has over a decade of experience working with San Jose Water and A&W Plumbing. While Steve replaced my old water heater, it was the small details which really impressed me. He replaced the connections to the water heater with new tubes. The old water heater had leaked all over the couple of feet of dry wall that surrounded the water heater's platform, so he tore out the dry wall and took it away to prevent mold from growing. When we went inside to see that the new heater was working, he noticed my faucet wasn't flowing very well, and so he quickly took it apart and showed me how to clean it out, so it flowed strong again.

It has been about a month, and my new water heater is working flawlessly. It is running so much better than my old one had been running the last several years. I wish I had called A&W several years ago. I highly recommend A&W for your water heater needs, and based on conversations with Steve, I will also use them for my future plumbing needs.

I've worked with Steve on multiple buildings, and his + team's work has always been very timely and at a very competitive rate. More importantly, he really knows his stuff (both implementation and design) -- which is critical for plumbing work that needs to last for decades.

Sorry man, gotta tell it as it is. Set up and confirmed an appointment at 8am. He didn't show. Contacted him at 8:15 and he said he was 30 min late. At 8:45 he called and said he was at another site and would be another 10 min before he could head out. At 9:30 still didn't show. At 10am I couldn't wait. Call him and he said he was just on his way, which was nearly 25 more minutes away.

I'm a pretty laid back guy but, seriously over 2 hours late and still not here????

How can you do business like that?

Hey, I get that you are busy. Busy is good, But if you are going to take the time to answer my call and then offer to call me back in a hour, even after confirming my phone number, then PLEASE CALL. You might be a great plumber but I'll never know. Next time, let it go to voicemail.

My call was answered by a nice, courteous guy who apologized for being so busy that I'd have to wait a few days. I said OK, and as he was on his way out, he requested that I send him a text message so he could get back to me. I did as requested. No response. Second text message. Still no response.

Top notch all the way. Called A&W Plumbing because my water heater bought the farm. Talked to Steve and explained my dilemma. He said he could have someone out there that evening and put in a new water heater. Glen showed up BEFORE the appointment time with a new 50 gallon water heater. We evaluated the situation, removed the old water heater, decided to reconfigure the pipes because when the copper re-pipe was done, the pipes were not mounted to the wall. I missed that since I could not see behind the old water heater. Ohh well. Anyway, after Glen talked to Steve (who later showed up to make sure everything was going good) and I got a revised estimate to redo the pipes, everything went pretty smooth. The price was fair, Steven even upgraded the standard 40 Gallon water heater to a 50 with no extra charge. I was able to talk to Steve and Glen the whole time they were working on the pipes and water heater. Very friendly and very personable as well. I'm happy with the work they did and now my water heater and the pipes to it are all taken care of.

I am writing this review six months after Steve did a complete re-pipe in our house and also installed a new water heater, so I have had plenty of time to form an opinion on his work. My family and I have enjoyed the results with no complaint at all - good water pressure, plenty of hot water, and ability to use both baths at once! He was friendly and responsive, and I could get him on the phone at any time during the few days the job took (from initial visit to final inspection/wrap-up). He kept me informed at every step so I felt very much in control of what was happening, and his team left the place clean each time. On the whole, it was one of the best service experiences I have had. I'll recommend him without hesitation!

Leaky water heater and didn't know who to call. Read yelp reviews and decided to give A&W a try. Couldn't have been happier with the service. Steve arrived within 15 minutes of my call.
