Hiring A-OK Mechanical in Lansing MI. was the worst contractor experience ever. This was supposed to be a simple furnace and humidifier installation in a 20 year old home.
We were notified that the furnace had been received at A-OK Mechanical and that they were ready to install it.
After A-OK Mechanical rescheduled 3 times they finally started the installation on the 4th appointment date.
Initially it took 4 days of working long hours to install the furnace and humidifier.
We had to call the installer back a 5th time to address multiple issues with the installation. All of the issues were not corrected so we had the owner of the company come over for a 6th attempt to correct the issues and meet with the inspector. A-OK Mechanical then made 2 more visits to the house to correct the problems identified by the inspector.
Issues:
On the first day of the installation, after the old furnace had been unhooked, we received a phone call from the owner of the company saying that he did not have the high efficiency furnace that we ordered and that he would give us a lower efficiency furnace for $100.00 less, we refused the offer. A few minutes later they found the correct furnace and we were told that we would have to pay $250.00 more for the correct furnace with the standard equipment that was on the furnace, we also refused that scam.
A-OK Mechanical never scheduled the final inspection as promised, we had to do it.
The humidifier did not work, it was assembled incorrectly.
The condensation drains were leaking at multiple connections.
Thumb nuts were missing on the top of the humidifier.
The dampener on the humidifier would not, could not, open.
The humidifier was wired incorrectly causing the water to the flow constantly to the humidifier even when the furnace was shut off.
There were massive air leaks between the furnace and the central air cooling coils, it was never sealed as you can see by the blowing Crepe Paper in the photo below.

The duct work above the furnace that was fastened to the ceiling was never reattached.
The exhaust and intake vents for the furnace that were installed had to be redone/corrected, as seen below in the before and after correction photos.

The seal around the incoming gas line to the furnace was never installed, as seen below in the before and after correction photos.

The make shift chunks of screens over the exhaust and intake pipes had to be replaced/corrected, as seen below in the before and after correction photos.

They were late to the house every day for work, no exceptions.
After A-OK Mechanical coming to the house on 8 different occasions for a job that should have been completed in 1. We hired another company at a cost of $350.00 to inspect and complete the installation.

Do not trust this company!

Two year old AC unit and the compressor went. Luckily, the thing was still under warranty. The owner told me that they deal with warranties all the time, no problem. Over a year later and I still have not gotten reimbursed for the part. Why? Because A-OK Mechanical never sent the part in to the manufacturer. But they won't admit this. Every time I contacted them, they told me they'd look into, that the manufacturer was giving them the run around, etc. So I call the the manufacturer who says they never received the defective part. They tell me to call the parts distributor because A-OK would have had to send the part to them first and then they would have sent the part to the manufacturer. Distributor can confirm that A-OK ordered the part from them but never returned it.

I asked A-OK three times to send me their paperwork that shows they sent the part in. They now will not respond to me. I'm out $600 because of their incompetency. Oh, and my AC still doesn't work. Because they only diagnosed half the problem. Stay away from this company.

Shittiest heating service EVER. Seriously, don't trust these guys. Our furnace went out, so they came out and charged $145 service fee and said they fixed it. Worked for a couple hours, went out again. They came out a second time and said they fixed it. NOPE. Went out again. 3rd time they come? Oh yeah, it's now $250 for the part plus the $145 service fee. So far we have paid 3 payments of $145 and $250. AND IT GOES OUT AGAIN. Today they're here for the 4th time and tell us there's another problem and it'll be $350+$145.

My boyfriend calls the owner to try to explain how we don't want to pay considering they have made 4 trips out to our house and have fucked up every. Single. Time. And the owner has the audacity to get into a screaming match with my boyfriend, and then a couple minutes later the Tech at our house leaves without warning. So we have no heat for the nigh.

Fuck this company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

I have been without heat for a week as these ill-trained mechanics diagnosed wrongly my furnace problem three times, and installed incorrect parts for a total of $800. I suffered severe headaches and thinking it was due to the cold, I continued to allow them to mislead me. Finally, I asked my neighbor for help and called Hager Fox. I learned that the new exhaust motor (which was not the actual problem) was installed improperly so that the fumes were circulating throughout my house, thus poisoning me. In the end, I need a new heat exchanger and look forward to a warmer night soon.

With the colder temps coming, I needed to make sure my furnace was working. When I found out it wasn't turning on, I called A-OK. This was the company that installed the furnace. An appointment was setup earlier this week to have the problem diagnosed. The technician determined we needed a new part and since he got here late, he wasn't able to get the part he needed. Another appointment was setup for later in the week. I made sure someone was home during the agreed appointment time. Nobody showed up during the agreed upon appointment time and I did not receive any phone calls letting me know what was going on. It wasn't until after I called the main number I was told they were running behind and it would be another hour before someone could make it out to my house. When someone did make it to my house, he came without the part that was needed - the same part that was known to be the issue from the appointment earlier in the week. He had to leave my house, go get the part, and come back with it to finish the job. By the time he got done with the repair, it was over 2.5 hours from the appointment time. I do not recommend using this company. They don't seem to value their customers time and are unprofessional by essentially doing a no-call/no show during an agreed appointment time.

This business arrived hours later than originally stated to fix a blown circuit breaker and evaluate the cause. I asked if he was a master electrician, and he claimed he was, but did not show me his card to prove it. He switched out the blown circuit breaker (without determining why it blew), and split that circuit into 2 circuits. Everything worked for about 12 hours, then the original circuit blew again. We called again, and after waiting again for hours after he was supposed to be here, we called and canceled. Very unhappy with the unsafe service.
