Company Overview

As the leading mechanical contracting company in the country, A.O. Reed & Co. is built on a foundation of integrity, excellence, and customer satisfaction. Having accumulated more than a century of expertise in the construction field, A.O. Reed is proud to deliver and support outstanding projects throughout Southern California. By delivering economical budgets and superior service, we have built trust with our esteemed clients, ensuring we meet aggressive timelines.

In 1914, brothers Albert O. and Harry Reed established a modest plumbing venture. In 1955, the reins of the company were taken over by Harry's sons, Jim and Don Reed. Several years later, the firm broke new ground in the air conditioning market in San Diego County. They merged these two disciplines to establish a mechanical contracting company that specializes in plumbing and HVAC.

Ed Andrade, the son-in-law, took over as President in 1982 and held the position until 1994. His son, Steve, succeeded him and currently serves as the CEO & Chairman of A.O. Reed & Co., with David Clarkin as President since 2015. Since the beginning, A.O. Reed has committed to transferring our knowledge from one generation to the next. The dedication of our leadership and skilled craftsmen reflects their commitment to the long-term success of A.O. Reed.

I have been to A.O. Reed several times and it's a wonderful outfit with great people just waiting to help you out! My most recent visit was to try to find a product called Sizzle which a plumber recommended to remove the scaling from one of our toilets. Stan, at A.O. Reed, gave me a tutorial on why not to use Sizzle and walked be through how a toilet works and how to remove the scaling using pool cleaning muriatic acid instead of Sizzle (much safer). Since A.O. Reed doesn't stock Sizzle or muriatic acid, Stan send me off to Home Depot where I found what I needed and it did the trick! I will definitely think A.O. Reed first when it comes to my plumbing needs. They are five star in my book. Doug Hoffman

very mixed reviews on here but wanted to give this place a try since close to my work. I am not a plumber by any means, however I have some experience and called to get a rough-in valve made by Delta. The regular rough in valve for all shower installs is a model R10000...they use the same valve for everything. There are also two different diverter valves and i needed a model R11000....the guy I called at the store does not go by Delta numbers...What??? I told him this is a 3 or 6 port diverter and he says can you bring it in with you? NO !!! I am doing a remodel idiot. He then proceded to tell me 5 mins of Delta history on all their different types of valves. i told him I could show him a picture of it and he said he could order it...guess what, so can I why would I bother with you. I am trying to support the local guy but not into this bullshit game playing. Places like this can fall off the earth for all I care. His effort to help me was like me saying well I do not go by Ford or GMC models only my system but bring it in and i can try to match it.

Update: So I drive to the store thinking it could just be the guy i got on the phone right? I walk in and show him a picture of the valve I need and ask if he has on ein stock. he looks at it and says "" Nope, no way. Won't touch it"". So I say ""Won't touch it?"", and he tell sme it is junk and does not last. Really?? All Delta valves are cast brass and have a lifetime warranty. These guys are very partial to what they want to seel and very opinionated. Unfortunately todays customer requires you to give your opinion and give me what I want.

I suppose A O Reed has enough of a commercial following that they don't really need to cater to the general public. I recently went there to acquire a generic part for what they consider to be an inferior product (code for something they don't sell) and I was met with a very rude, condescending, insulting, scruffy little man that seemed more interested in letting me know his contempt for the product I decided to buy and insulting me in the process than helping me with the problem I came in to solve. The tall gentleman with the long face has been friendly and helpful on previous visits but the little old mean guy with the beard is someone to steer clear of. This guy betrays the reputation of an otherwise well known company.

The people at A.O. Reed are EXCELLENT! I have been going to them for years. They know everything about Plumbing. I do not know what I would do without Tim Peverly or Tammi. They have helped me with figuring out why my faucets leak to ordering the correct size sinks for my bathroom. They are Very Friendly and very, very knowledgeable. It is so nice to stil have a shop like A.O. Reed to go to without having to be stuck going to places like Lowes or HomeDepot. I absolutely love A.O. Reed. They have saved me so much $$ because they know more than some plumbers do!

I've been purchasing my plumbing supplies at A.O. Reed since 1991 and they've always been friendly, professional, and reasonable! The Manager of the retail store (Stan) bent over backwards to help me with a problem I had, removing a stuck cartridge from my shower valve. He easily saved me over $100 in plumbing costs, and he and all of the staff there all really know their stuff! Note that A.O. Reed is both a Retail Store that can get anything from a washer for your sink to the entire sink (plus toilets, fixtures, parts, etc from all of the major plumbing lines).

They're also Commercial plumbers, and since I live in a Condominium, I've had the opportunity to experience their plumbers as well, since A.O. Reed replaced the boiler in our Condominium complex last year. They came in with a fair bid, and the work was performed smoothly and on time. I'd have to say, if you need any plumbing parts/fixtures/supplies, or if you manage any commercial or office buildings, you need look no further, this is the place to call!

If you need plumbing supplies, fixtures or anything else plumbing AO Reed is the place to go. Because AO Reed seems ""industrial"" I keep being drawn to the other retail stores - BIG MISTAKE. AO Reed has excellent customer service, Tim and Dave have been so helpful, and they have access to everything you could need for a bathroom or kitchen remodel. Save yourself time, money and frustration and head to AO Reed for everything plumbing.

I called them and spoke with Brian about replacing a water heater. Unfortunately, they only do commercial. I told him about my little dilemma, and Brian gave me some great imput and was so informative (even though he didn't have to), which really impressed me.

Even though I didn't get to use them, I just wanted to give them and Brian ""props"" for being so helpful.

What can I say? The folks at A.O. Reed haven't lost their touch one bit. It's so nice to have a place to go with plumbing problems and have the solution solved by very knowledgeable and friendly people!

Today I went in because I had a leaking kitchen faucet and the lever action was loose as well. I couldn't even figure out how to take the thing apart so I could bring it in to them, so instead I took a few photos and just brought my camera. I explained what was going on and where the leak was coming from and Tim was able to figure out exactly what I needed in order to do the repair myself.

Turns out that Moen will send replacement kits for certain fixture problems and so Tim gave me the kit for free that they had in the store and asked that I just return with the kit that Moen will send me after I call the 800 number and make the delivery request. He even threw in some valve grease (and showed where to apply it) after I mentioned the noise the faucet was making at the base when I turn it.

Man, I'll be sad if I ever leave San Diego and have to find another plumbing store for my needs. I won't even go to Home Depot or Lowe's anymore if my need is at all plumbing related, since I know that the guys at A.O. Reed will have all the answers (and hopefully the parts too!) and will show me exactly what I will need to make the repairs myself. They really deliver in customer satisfaction and that is why I will continue to go back!

I have worked with several heating and air conditioning companies, but none match the customer service and value that AO Reed provides. As an assistant property manager, I would recommend using AO Reed for any heating, air conditioning or plumbing needs you have.

I had a kitchen drain pipes leak problem, and my dad suggested getting the plumbing parts at A. O. Reed, because of their excellent knowledge and service. I went by their shop with my broken pipe and some digital photos of the entire assembly, and Tim was able to get me the right replacement parts and explained how to assemble everything.

When I had an extra question, I called in and got an answer quick. Given that I rushed into the repair job, I wasn't as thorough as I should have been, and needed to get some more pipe as I had cut one of them too short. Remember the phrase: Measure Twice, and Cut Once). James F.'s corollary: Measure None and Buy Twice. So back to the store and they got me the right piece in an instant. And now.. no leaks!

You might pay a little bit more here than at some giant do-it-yourself hardware store, but you are not just paying for parts -- you are paying for knowhow. Why pay a plumber to come out to do minor fixes, when you can fix it yourself with the parts and tools from A. O. Reed and the knowledge that comes from their staff.

They take Mastercard and Visa but not American Express.
