Company Overview
A.O. Reed & Co. stands as the premier mechanical contracting firm in the nation, founded on principles of excellence, integrity, and customer satisfaction. With a legacy spanning over a hundred years in construction, A.O. Reed excels in creating and servicing notable projects in Southern California. By delivering economical budgets and superior service, we have built trust with our esteemed clients, ensuring we meet aggressive timelines.
The journey began in 1914 when brothers Albert O. and Harry Reed launched a small plumbing operation. Harry's sons, Jim and Don Reed, took charge of the firm in 1955. Several years later, the firm broke new ground in the air conditioning market in San Diego County. The brothers combined these two fields to create a mechanical contracting firm focused on plumbing and HVAC.
In 1982, Ed Andrade, who is the son-in-law, assumed the role of President and remained in that position until 1994. Following him, his son Steve became the CEO & Chairman of A.O. Reed & Co., with David Clarkin serving as President since 2015. A.O. Reed has always prioritized the transfer of our expertise across generations. The dedication of our leadership and skilled craftsmen reflects their commitment to the long-term success of A.O. Reed.

Recommended Customer Reviews

Very very lazy sales clerk who didn't bother to get out of his chair and kept on texting on his phone. He was sitting in the back when we walked in and didn't bother with any acknowledgement. It's a pretty small showroom so I know he saw us walking around. We finally walked up to his desk and he had his head down buried in his phone....until we were literally up against his desk and he showed very little interested in answering our questions. Wouldn't go back again. Service sucks!

I've always felt so comfortable going into A.O Reed as a young women and knowing I wasn't going to get scammed. They have always been so helpful and only sold me what I needed and not anymore! Tim and Stan especially have always been helpful and nice. I would highly recommend going and seeing these guys.

They definitely are consistently getting bad review for customer service. They two old farts in there, Tim and whoever, really could not care less whether they helped you or not. Had to replace the cartridges in a bathroom faucet that I bought there, and took in the printed warranty from the manufacturer. Acted like I was trying to rob them blind. Very inattentive. Would gladly go out of my way to get plumbing parts to avoid these cheapo creepy old relics. Very disappointing service.

Bottom line...This company needs a huge lesson in customer service. I came in to get a trim kit and I was told I could only get a certain style kit becuase of the cartridge I have. I was charged $80.00 for the kit that had a plastic knob. I asked if they had a knob that matched the kit instead of the plastic. They then offered me a hande for an additional $24.00. I made three trips back and forth becuase from what I described to the older clerk wasn't matching what I was sold. Finally my wife found the exact trim kit we wanted made by the same manufactor of the cartridge with the matching handle for $47.00 on line. I presented this information to the clerk and with a pissed off attitude I was refunded my money. Trust me, if anybody makes you feel like putting your fist to a wall it's AO Reed. Don't ever go there! look online first and save yourself the trouble.

A..O. Reed sets the standard for service.
My complex's recommended plumber wanted $1k to tear into wall for full faucet replacement, and did not include wall repair.
A.O. way was to provide just the parts required, even recommending handle kits as being cheaper than individual parts. Total, about $100. Even better, no wall repair needed, and done in under 2 hours.

Worst customer service ever.
They are rude both on the phone and in the store. I asked for a drain for a bathtub which has the option of having the outlet located at the top. I was told that they don't know what I am talking about, that they don't have any such an items in stock, and that the company which referred me to them was trying to rip me off and not getting me any good customer service, because they sold me a tub without the drain. Ya, but that kind of attitude is supposed to be any good service?
Because we also wanted to look at some toilets we actually went to the store nonetheless. Of course they do have normal bath tub drains in stock, but both customer representatives were so unfriendly and un-accomodating that we left the store without buying anything.
NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN.

I always seem to end up at A. O. Reed but only after failed attempts for a quick fix...don't know why I just don't start there other than they are a bit out of the way for me. I went there today in hopes of resolution to fixing a P-trap under my sink. I had already spent over an hour having very helpful, but unsuccessful, employees help me at a couple of the other bigger chain stores.
The problem was the slip nuts I had what appeared to be odd sizes, at least they were not standard at the other places yet, when I walked into A.O. Reed the gentleman that helped me knew right away that he had the right part, didn't try to sell me anymore than what I needed and I was out the door in 5 minutes and off to get it home and finish the job!

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They can order virtually anything you need in a day or two if they don't have it in stock. Prices are fair, slightly more than you could get online but you don't have to wait for it to arrive and you're supporting a local business.

A.O. Reed & Co was reccommended by San Diego Hardware. The older gentlemen inside is very nice and knew exactly what my husband and I tried to describe to him as a sort of supporting rod for our shower curtain/pipe in our 1924 home. The pipe is starting to pull the plaster away from the wall so we were in search of one of those straight rods that go into the ceiling. He assured us that his product would work fine with our lathe and plaster ancient house bones and let us take a part to try out for size since we were the dumb dumbs who didn't take any measurements before coming in to see them.
A.&.O Reed & Co have been in business forever and it shows with their customer service and vast knowledge. The older gentlemen congratulated us on ownership of our first home and gave us a pleasant family style send off of good luck to us.

Incredibly helpful sales staff. Good selection of quality products. Attentive (but not overbearing) customer service. Here they actually know what they are talking about and offer extremely helpful and pertinent advice. They know their stuff! Prices are also reasonable (only a few dollars more than online) but it was their expertise, helpfulness and friendliness that really one me over. Consider stopping by here before going to the high end show rooms or the major nationwide suppliers. Impressed!
