Company Overview

A Handy Woman Painting & Repairs is a comprehensive residential painting service operating in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. We provide exterior wood staining and painting, stucco repair, elastomeric and masonry finishes, interior cabinet painting, wall and ceiling services, skylight painting, trim work, sheetrock and plaster repairs, baseboard installation, and additional services. Our goal is to enhance your space while making the process enjoyable. We are dedicated to fostering enduring work and relationships. No matter if it’s a small one-bedroom task or a comprehensive home project, we have the skills and expertise to do it right.

As a teenager, my mother often encouraged me to tackle home repairs before seeking professional help. I painted, handled plumbing, installed light fixtures, and even built a shed from the ground up to store our lawn equipment and bicycles. Since that time, I have owned several properties in Naples, Florida, and Boulder, Colorado, where I handled most of the improvements and repairs personally. Following a rewarding 25-year career in IT, I decided to pursue my passion and founded A Handy Woman. I operate in northern New Mexico and take great pleasure in what I do!

I frequently receive thanks from clients for being trustworthy. In other words, I deliver on my promises, on schedule and within budget.

Insight Mechanical provides exceptional service and are very fair in their pricing. They installed an excellent new mini-split system and water heater in my home and have always stepped up to be responsive, thorough, and caring in their approach. I highly recommend them!

The team at Insight Mechanical is amazing. They have installed a total of four split units in my home. They were very communicative, on time, followed up and even supplied a handyman for a minor issue on my wall. They are my go to team. I have made several referrals already and will continue to recommend them. Also, they are really nice people!

Scott and his team installed 4 mini splits in my home. They were on time, professional and neat. Might not sound like big deal, but in Santa Fe it is. Two of my good friends used them as well on my recommendation and they too are pleased. I highly recommend them without reservations.

Insight Mechanical installed Daikin Minisplits, whole house water softener system and an kitchen water filtration system In 2019. Alex and his team did a great job. They cleaned up each day and were courteous, competent and friendly. I would highly recommend them!

I had some mini-splits installed in my house, and subsequently the plumber I used went out of business and the units never worked properly! I went through two other companies to try to get them operational, with no luck! I finally went to the LG website and they had Insight Mechanical as a certified LG specialist. Alex came over to investigate and within 30 minutes of him being here, he found the problem. They repaired the system and now it works great!

The team at Insight did a great job; I'd definitely recommend them!

I have hired Insight Mechanical for small jobs including annual heating system service and a large job installing a hydronic (radiant) cooling system. Scott Sweeney (owner) and the company's technicians are responsive, flexible, professional, and have exhibited exceptional technical skill in all situations. They use top quality products, are competitively priced, and made sure the job was completed to my satisfaction.

I highly recommend Insight Mechanical!

Insight installed two heat pumps for my mom in Taos, one in 2017 and one in 2019. In general, they have been very responsive when contacted about issues, but I was up on her roof this month and I noticed that the insulation had entirely dissolved on the refrigerant lines for the first one they had installed, and that the insulation on the second one was already starting to decay from the UV exposure. Heat pumps don't function properly without this insulation. My mom contacted them and they said that they had noticed this problem on some of their installations and had switched to another insulation product. They said the problem was not their fault because the manufacturer claimed that the product was UV resistant. They provided the spec sheet for the product, which says that it is ""UV resistant for *up to 5 years*"" (my emphasis.) The thing is that they knew they were installing the heat pumps on a roof in Taos where UV is way more intense than almost anywhere, and that minisplit heat pumps are supposed to last 10-30 years, so why were they using a product that is rated for ""up to"" 5 years in normal conditions in what can only be described as extreme conditions? It should have been no surprise that the product was beginning to fail after 2 years (on the 2019 heat pump) and has totally failed after 4 years (on the 2017 heat pump), and they should have known this. Having discovered the problem, they should have contacted all their customers where this product was installed and offered to replace it, rather than waiting for an 80 year old woman's son who happens to know a little about HVAC to go up on the roof for other reasons and notice the problem. Even failing that, they should have offered to replace the insulation when we contacted them.

$162.63. This is what I was charged for 70 minutes of labor and a $2.00 copper fitting.
Highly professional work but it was merely sweating copper fittings.
Approximately $30.00 per 15 minutes or $120.00 an hour. To sweat copper lines??
A client of mine used them to snake a line-35 minutes of labor and she was billed $135.00.
The client was outraged. Two highly expensive encounters and I will instead use Santa Fe Plumbers and not recommend them to my customers.
The lack of competition allows these outrageous billing practices.
