A General who is our family plumbMing service sent Joe out today to address a leak in my family room ceiling. Joe diagnosed the leak , repaired, sealed my toilet and cleaned up the mess. He was so professional, an expert plumber. A-General is a family operated
business who always remedies the problem.

I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this company and I will be reporting them to the State of New Jersey as well as the Better Business Bureau and recommending no community living contract with them. I called last month to simply repair my hot water heater unit of four years. I specifically asked for someone who was experienced with electric, tankless units. The plumber who came was not of that nature and diagnosed my issue as needing a whole new unit as well as claiming to make repairs of $900, and an additional $900 would be needed when I got a new unit. When I call for professional service, I obviously expect them to do the job so I don't have to. A quick search showed me that all was needed was to replace the hot water heater elements which are $30 on Amazon. I had another plumber come back to install them. Unfortunately I did not get hot water at my tub spout. The company argued me with me, stating that was impossible for me to get hot water there with my unit. I showed them the exact shower and tub spout I just purchased this summer, which are low flow and never had an issue in four years. They said they would replace the shower and tub spout but that obviously wouldn't have done anything, even I know that. A third plumber comes to replace a cartridge to see if that works. It doesn't and he tells me ""I'm done"" and there is nothing he can do for me. He got angry and rigged my shower so I can only get hot water now and not turn my faucet handle all the way (I have video proof of this). At this point, I have phone logs of over 20 calls to both the company, the owner himself, several emails and unanswered texts to the direct owner, Frank Maletto. Mr. Maletto promised to refund me the $900 that the original plumber grossly
misdiagnosed me- that never happened. I have been calling, emailing, texting for the last two weeks and all the office says is ""we can deliver a message, there is nothing we can do"". Interestingly I called the owner once from another phone number and it actually rang as opposed to declining my call... really a shame that I just redid my ONLY bathroom and it doesn't even fully function

I cannot say enough good things about A-General. Their service and especially their employees are efficient, knowledgeable, and professional. From the time I called with a plumbing problem through the service call, I was treated with respect by their friendly employees. Thanks Celia (sp?) and Joe for your help!

Our first experience with A-General was very good, which was having a new kitchen faucet installed. The plumber worked for about 1 hour and charged $220. B/c of that good experience, a few months later when the bathtub faucet was leaking we called A-General again. The plumber replaced the faucet cartridge in about 15 minutes (prior to his arrival we had already shut off the main water, removed the handle and plate so the cartridge was already exposed) and the bill was $282! I asked a friend who is related to a plumber if this price is reasonable. He said that I was excessively overcharged and should reach out to the manager and ask to have the charges reviewed.
So I called and asked to speak with a manager to ask for a breakdown of the charges, how much was the cartridge and the labor. The secretary who answered the phone states that the manager is not there and asked what is the issue. I asked her how much they generally charge for a cartridge replacement and she said she doesn't know and that it all varies. She asked me how much they charged me. After I told her, she said that is about $10 less than what they usually would charge. She just told me that she has no idea how much they generally would charge, but now she says that I was charged $10 less than what is usual!! Doesn't she hear herself lying to a customer!! She abruptly puts me on hold and later says manager Diana will call you. No one called me back.
Bottom line....
- The plumber and his work was fine but it's at an extremely unreasonable cost, which I would look elsewhere for alternative plumbing companies.
- The secretary who answers the phone is confrontational and directly lies to customers and unnecessarily aggravates the issue. She completely lacks customer service and unfortunately is the only person you can speak to there. Since she is the only representative for this company, it just confirmed why I should not utilize their services again

New Egypt NJ. HORRIBLE! They sent a plumber. He never touched a pipe, stood on a ladder NOTHING!! We told him we had a smell in the basement and all he said was ""I don't smell anything"" and gave us a bill for $106. I called to complain and they took my information, the owner NEVER even bothered to call me back and immediately cashed my check. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Disgusting. The plumber pulled a filthy dirty disgusting used towel out of his bag and put it down on my clean floor! He was scheduled for the appointment to snake the drain but complained that he would have to go all the way to the end of the sidewalk to his truck to get the equipment. After being asked 5 times he finally went and got it. If you are going to use them be prepared to spend an extra hour and a half bleaching down your floors from their used towels and having to ask multiple times for a complete job to be done as they don't feel like being bothered doing too much work.

Waste of good money and time, don't use these guys to clear any main lines. This company could not get the job done.
Another company got the job done the next day with a nice prompt and competent staff .
A-general has only slow moving old men who charge by the 30 min increments, all to happy to be fixing their own equipment and tools, taking personal calls, breaks, which should be done on their time.

The whole house backed up on a late Saturday afternoon. The receptionist was so helpful and pleasant. The technician was here in under an hour, competently snaked our the sewer line between the house and the street, and everything is back to normal. At a very reasonable price. Thanks!!

I had A-General do work for me they are a rip off. they replaced a water line for me.showed up a week later to do the work was told they had to take sidewalk up.It was up to me to pay for a new Sidewalk that cost was $600.00. they also put in a new hot water heater cost me $200.00 to get the permit signed. So I was charged $6000.00 for one new water line and hot water heater. Never came back to finish putting dirt in hole or top soil and seed.I turned them into BBB also consumer affairs.Next stop small claims court Please note the job was done in 4.5 hrs. be sure not to use them

A-General came out to our buisness very quickly, We had an after hours emergency with a broken main water line, and they were so responsive. The guys were polite, and obviously well versed in plumbing issues. We will certinaly use them again for any of our plumbing needs.
