NEVER USE AB MAY FOR ANY SERVICES!!! I contacted AB MAY to help with root removal from my sewer line. They informed me that I needed to jet out my sewer line and it would cost me $2,000 but since I had a home warranty it would cost $1,500. I assumed AB MAY was a good company so I did not price check with other companies/plumbers. AB MAY then told me that they recommended I replace my entire sewer line and gave me a price quote which I felt was really high. That led me to call other companies/plumbers and I find out that the going rate to have your sewer jetted is $300-400 and AB MAY charges $2,000! What on earth!?! So I called AB MAY (James) and asked him why they charge so much. He then tries to tell me that the AB MAY jetting machine is a ""commercial"" grade machine and that others ""might"" not use commercial grade jetters. I don't care if it's ""commercial"" if it gets the job done! I then call a friend in another state who is a plumber who specializes in drain and sewer line jetting. He laughed when I told him what AB MAY had told me and said that's a new line...! He said we got ripped off.
Listen up! AB MAY is a DISHONEST company--I was told their techs are commissioned based on what they ""recommend"" you have done and they often tell you that you need way more done than is necessary. They are charging 4-5 times what other honest companies are charging. DO NOT use AB MAY! We are telling everyone we know about this and contacted our relator at Reece & Nichols to inform her and to alert the company of AB MAY's pricing and practices so they can find another company to use when recommending home warranties. We have been robbed!
The most overpriced company I have ever called out to any of my properties. Do your wallet a favor, call someone else and get a quote.
Mary H.Waited 2 days for someone to come to our house. Never got a call or explanation. 2 appointments, 2 no-shows. My only thought is that Covid is hitting all of us hard. Still, it would have been nice to get some contact from the company if no one is going to show up.
Phillip L.Really just a company ran that looks to install the cheapest equipment along with offering some of the worst warranty packages possible. Had a warranty purchased by the previous home owners and it covered basically nothing.
When the one thing that was covered, the AC unit, went down, it still cost $4000 to have replaced. A week after it was replaced the contractor went out so they came out and replaced it. Here we are a year later and the contractor went out yet again, but they were unable to come out and fix it so I had to spend another $400 to have Anthony heating and cooling (great people) come out and replace it. Loved how right after a year the same junky part failed and they magically were unable to help with a 90 degree house and a pregnant wife in it.
Avoid this company at all costs, unless you're selling a house and want to saddle the new owners with a cheap warranty.
Lorie W.Called AB May out to look at my AC. They would not give me a ETA so I had to wait by the phone all day for a call. I called to make my appointment, and the answer service took my number to have the company call me back. They called me back but failed to update my number, so my 1st appointment was canceled. I didn't even get a email notice. They came out the next day, and were not able to explain the problem, so suggested a new unit. Two different people provided very different prices. I paid close to $400 for a service fee and freon, but the AC is still not cooling my home. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Also they are very expensive!
We have a home warranty and have only been living in our home for 3 months when the AC goes out. We called on Saturday and the technician called back saying she's cancelling the appointment because we are too far out for her for the night and to call back Sunday. We call and again are cancelled on until Monday. So much for a home warranty or emergency. Meanwhile the house is sitting at 82 and it's in the 90's outside and I have pets and kids. Not happy with the customer service we are getting
DO NOT get a Home Warranty contract through
AB May. They've been called to our home twice now and both times come up with every BS excuse they could, in order not to provide a warranty repair on our furnace and now our electrical panel.
Additionally, on our most recent service call, we had to schedule several weeks in advance, then the tech was 2 hours late.
My ""journey"" with AB May began about 5 years ago with a broken dishwasher. Well, it wasn't fully ""broken"" until the tech literally broke the door. Long and short is we were going to be charged over $500 or join the service plan and it was free. Since then, we've put in a new furnace/AC/water softener and had multiple repairs--most of them had to be fixed a second time! To this day, my faucet still vibrates when you turn off the water from the kitchen faucet. The miscues are too numerous to list, and spending $71/month on this plan, only to rarely use it--and the repairs are typically last less than a year--is like flushing good money down the poor plumbing. Carter is a great guy, and I am just more disappointed that they literally feel like they nickle-and-dime you for everything. They make a big deal about the city not requiring a permit for furnace/ac but they have it inspected anyway. Ironically, the install actually failed the unnecessary inspection! I have some pic of the install, and these are not even the worse of it. You have to stay on top of them to get everything cleaned up and installed back to original fit and look. There's too much competition out there, folks, so look around before you decide upon a true partner in your home maintenance.
Just wanted to report that I'm still alive; it is now 3.5yrs since AB May did a ""preventative maintenance"" check on our unit where they made me sign a waiver claiming the carbon monoxide levels might kill me if I didn't buy a new $9.5k unit...and, magically, the A/C wasn't as cold the following summer after they messed with it. I think at this point I can officially call BS, since our detectors have still never reported a reading over 0.0. Additionally, after hearing our AB May experience, another HVAC service company came out and recharged the unit; A/C has been working fine since, which unfortunately supports the idea AB May likely removed some refrigerant--dirty sales tactics.
Julie D.Day 11 without a working furnace. The technician came out on Friday, March 6th and after a few hours indicated he needed to order a part and the part would be coming from Chicago. I had the option to pay $75 to have it overnighted, but that meant it would be Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. Not sure why that would be considered ""overnight"" - I declined that charge. Didn't hear anything until I called and left two messages at their dispatch on Thursday, March 12th. No call back on that day- called Friday, March 13th and the dispatch let me know that the part was in and the tech had to pick it up at the shop and would then be headed to my house. After the tech worked for 3 hours, I was informed it still isn't working and another part is needed - this one coming from AZ. Just called and dispatch says the notes show the part isn't scheduled to be in until the 18th at the earliest. It is 37 degrees outside. Additionally, I have a gold plan with this company. I had them out in December to have the furnace seasonally maintenances. Unacceptable.
***UPDATE***
It is now April 29th and the furnace is still not fixed. Almost two months now - I do understand that it is a hard time due to COVID 19, but I will point out that this started two weeks before the stay-at home order. The 3rd part needed was ordered and was supposed to be in March 30th - then when I called on the 30th was told it was actually the 31st. I had to call on the 31st at the end of the day to check and was told that now they were hoping to get the part by the 16th if April. That day came, again I had to call to check as no one had called me - confirmed that they now had that part and they said they were busy and hoped to be able to get me scheduled the following week. I explained it had been a long time and that I hoped they'd be available the next day - they did agree and and we scheduled a time for the 17th. The tech showed up on the 17th and he grabbed the box that was obviously the shipped box that we had been waiting for and he headed to the basement to hopefully finally fix it. Guess what? THE BOX WAS EMPTY. No part. The tech had to return to the office to check where the part had disappeared to - as this was a Friday, I was told at 7pm that they couldn't locate it and that they were going to regroup on Monday. Monday I was called and told the part needed to be reordered and it would be 1-2 weeks more!
This is day 54 of no furnace.
They are going to be at my house tomorrow with the part.... not feeling confident it will be fixed tomorrow, but hoping!
I also looked to message them as they did respond that they needed my contact info to have a customer service consultant contact me after my initial review - there is no link to message this company that I could find.
