Extremely dissatisfying service from Gary Peterson. I wanted to have someone come and check the sewer and clean it up and also find a possible reason for the blockage. I called A1 services and they sent Peterson to me for the service saying they charge $100+. The base charge is 100 and if there is more problems found they would charge me more, understood. Peterson, In the beginning was very polite and friendly and was talking about what and all he is going to do to diagnose the problem and quoted me for $225.l told him that I'm not planning to spend that much so just go ahead and clean the sewer for $100 which is the price that was promised to me. The moment I told him that, his attitude was completely changed. At the end, he not only charged the 100 for service but also $30 as a trip charge? Seriously? I heard people charge diagnostics when you don't get the service done by them but not a service charge + a trip charge. I got it done a year ago for 69.99 through some other person who came with even more fancier equipment than what Gary came with. Too bad, just because he acted like that he lost me as a customer. Some people just don't get a simple math behind making a good customer relationship especially when there are 100s of them out there like him. I will never ever recommend him to anyone.
Plumber was rude, made comments about my husband behind his back. Had to have the guy come out three times, and on the third time he refused to correct the changes in the pipes he had made (he pulled the extension pipe out too far so that the vanity drawer would no longer close) I got an earful more about how he was not my ""errand boy"" and how I was ""speculating that he moved the pipe"". Called his supervisor, supervisor said he would come out himself to correct. I was thinking finally someone who cares about customer service. Was I wrong. He came out with a bad attitude and rude remarks, and took a long time to just move a pipe into the wall. All this drama to just tighten some fittings? Will NEVER call again, NEVER!!! I have never been treated with such disrespect. Not professional at all.
Mark G.Arrived on a Sunday within a few hours of being called. They showed up right on time and were very polite. There was no extra charge for weekend, and were less than half the price of another quote i got for the same work. Provided a quote over the phone (unlike several other companies) and stuck to it. He got to work very quickly and had it fixed in under an hour. I would highly recommend using A1 for any work you need done.
I recently hired A1 replace a septic tank pump at a cost of $2800. This bill included (according to the service man) a pump that cost A1 (not marked up for me, the consumer) was $2300. He went on to say he was requesting of his boss that A1 not take their usual markup to give a break and came back with a total install quote of $2800. I agreed and the pump was installed.
Afterwards, having been given the pump warranty which included the model and manufacturer, I called directly to get a price quote for my pump. It was $575 including tax. I then called A1 with this information and they agreed I was overcharged but still wrangled the most charge they could retain. For example, my pump supposedly cost them $850 (I was told their supplier had to make a profit...60% or more??) and they routinely marked up cost to them by 50%. So I was to be charged $1275 (before tax) for the pump. Then they attempted to charge for 4 hours labor until I pointed out the service man took about one hour. Upshoot? I did win a $1203 refund, still leaving them an astonishing profit. Furthermore when I called the service man for his explanation he told me his standing instructions were to multiply cost by 2.5 when preparing a quote (he did not explain why he misrepresented $2300 as A1's cost.) This is an unbelievable profit.
If you choose to use A1 I recommend you have a way to fact/cost check before agreeing to their estimate. In fact I recommend you not use this company, period!
Sam K.I called A-1 Sewer out to do a camera inspection on my main sewer line and give me a second opinion regarding replacement.
Aaron came out and found that my line was still clogged and wasn't properly cleared by the last plumber (Bob Hamilton). They were also able to provide me a hard copy of the DVD for the camera inspection. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEtZ2s9A8FQ)
A-1 recommended doing a proper cleaning with a 3"" blade and were able to get me scheduled the next day to have this done.
Mike cake out to run the line and and didn't find any issues. He also gave me some advice regarding maintenance vs replacement.
I'm glad I called these out and only wish I had called them first.
Cindi D.Just had a tech (Michael) come out and unclog our sewer drain. He was here within the hour stayed and made sure everything works well. Very professional and honest. Will keep A-1 Sewer & Septic number handy for the future. I'm very pleased.
I called A1 to fix a back up with my main drain. They came out quickly and it felt like it was going to be a good experience. They said they ""fixed"" it, I paid more than I have in the past, but for the weekend it seemed fair. Well less than 2 hours later I did a load of laundry and my drain was backing up into my basement once again. I went to my garage and the plug for the main drain was down 3 ft into the drain, unable for me to get, and my drain open for whatever debris to fly into. I was extremely frustrated but I re grouped called A1 back for them to redeem themselves. The woman who answered the phone was short and rude, I was trying to be forgiving and just ask if they could send someone back today to look at it again and retrieve the drain plug. She said we will see. I waited 90 minutes and called them back again, she was even ruder and said it may not be today. So now I have a back up in my basement and no drain plug. Still waiting because I don't want to start over paying with a new plumber, but if it goes on longer I will go back to my old faithful plumber.
Joanne B.NEVER use A-1 unless you want to be charged 4 times what you should be. Total rip off. I was charged over $50 for a part that costs $5 at Home Depot. I was charged ""labor"" for the time it took the technician to drive 45 minutes to the store and back when he had the part in his truck the whole time. He also added items to the work order that were not asked for or done. He arrived over an hour late. And the service manager yelled at me for complaining! Horrible experience. They do not even deserve one star.
Kathy B.SHORT VERSION:
Pros:
- Front office and plumbers were polite and helpful
- they kept at it until it was resolved
Cons:
- Took them three trips to provide what should have been provided the first time.
- EXTREME defensiveness that is threatening the sale of a house and harming two people as a result. (WILL cost seller at least $100 unnecessarily, and could cost a couple thousand!)
- High prices
- Finally got mostly resolved, but was an ordeal.
The service tech came out and was supposed to snake our drain lines. 5 minutes into running the snake, he found a crack in the main line and had to stop. He indicated the crack had to be repaired in order for him to continue. He estimated the cost to be $500-800. He then charged me $134 for the 5 minutes he was working on the line. In my experience with other plumbers, I was charged a ""trip charge"" for something like this. So, I called the office and the service manager told me the $134 was the minimum service charge which was supposed to be for an hour of labor and 100 feet of snake. When I explained the service tech only spent 5 minutes and 10 feet of snake and asked for a more reasonable trip charge (Bob Hamilton would have only charged me $48), the service manager became irate and started yelling at me. He was so defensive and quick to yell, I can only assume they get a lot of unhappy customers who end up paying $134 for nothing. Next time, I will go with another service who only charges a trip charge. Unfortunately for A-1, they lost my business to repair the main line.
