J D.I'd like to start by saying the actual work they did was great (4.5 stars probably). The issues I had were with scheduling, which perhaps may not phase you.
I wanted to get a roof inspection (not free, but I knew this) as well as a power wash of my house. They needed to price/inspect the house before power washing, so the first appointment was both inspections and then subsequent scheduling.
First scheduling was cancelled due to rain, which is understandable. The issue was, they cancelled the day of. I was working from home, but not everyone can afford this and it surprised me they didn't cancel the day before, even though I at the same time did not expect them to come out.
The second scheduling they didn't show. I called and they said it was scheduled for the following week. I have no firm proof they were right, however, I did write down a date and it's not easy to confuse ""7"" and ""14"" in my opinion.
When the inspection actually happened, the service guys did not have any notes to perform the roof inspection. They were able to do it when I mentioned however.
After receiving the estimate for the power washing, I called back to schedule this service. The company sent me an invoice to sign saying I wanted the service but it included price for both the roof shingle replacement as well as the power washing. On my hesitation they sent me a second invoice with just the power washing.
After I signed it, I got an email saying my credit card had been charged the downpayment. This was before any dates for the action were set and felt bad.
The service went with only minor incident, as I said above it was pretty good. I didn't interact with the service folks at all (I was working, as far as I know they never knocked). Minor negative notes, the service guys left some minor trash in my lawn as well as the power wash service used my water, which didn't surprise me, but always minorly irks me when people bill me then use my resources to do the job.
After they left, the company sent me a mail with a confirmation to sign that all was good. On closer inspection of the work, I found they had broken an attachment to our house. I was unwilling to sign until this was rectified. The company emailed me back quickly saying they could send me a replacement or reduce the cost of the bill. I emailed back saying I'd prefer the replacement (less work for me) but would not sign the document until the replacement was received because all was not good. They balked at this and we ended up reducing the cost, which is sort of fine but then why even offer the other option. After we worked this out, they also stated they would charge my card (the reduced rate) at the end of the day, though when they said this I had not yet signed the document and I found that sort of strange. I got it in before that evening (and before they charged) so I have no idea if they would have done so without signature or not.
Despite all this, the staff was friendly and the exchanges prompt. I don't think this is true from my pre-investigating, but it felt almost like a small/new company vibe, perhaps they'll iron out such issues in the future or maybe my luck is just bad. I'd use them again but probably wouldn't recommend them to anyone at least without telling about all these minor dramas.
Also noteworthy was that their services all seem to be standard warrenteed for 10 years.
This company did a great job with finding the cause of my roof leak, when three other contractors could not find the cause during their inspection. 21 Century Home Services did a dye test to find the leak; it was a gap between where the upper and lower parts of the roof met, and the gutter needed an adjustment. The company also replaced the molded and rotted dry wall. 21 Century passed my check with the Better Business Bureau and it has state licenses in the DMV. They were prompt and courteous. I'm very happy!
